Meet Luminaria’s Conductor
Hi, I’m Amy
I’m a conductor, singer, and elementary music educator.
When I'm not at choir, you might find me watching concerts and theatre, fiercely committing to a theme, or striving to spend more time in water than on land!
What’s It Like To Sing With EYCC?
Answers To Your Questions About Luminaria
-
For a few reasons! Because of significant registration numbers for this age-group, it’s helpful to rehearse as two classes to provide more focused training and individual attention to each singer.
Luminaria and Spiritus rehearsals happen simultaneously and they regularly collaborate, giving our singers the benefit of learning from two fabulous conductors.
In addition, we are looking to add more boys to our choir family. As they grow up and their voices change, they become wonderful tenors and basses in our Youth and Young Adult programs.
As an organization, we are committed to gender inclusivity and singers are welcome and encouraged to choose which choir they would prefer to sing in. Should you have any questions or need assistance choosing the best-fitting choir for your child, do not hesitate to contact our team.
-
Our weekly Tuesday rehearsals take place at Southminster-Steinhauer United Church (10740 19 Ave NW).
Concerts typically take place at different venues across the city, such as McDougall United Church, City Hall, SSUC, and First Baptist Church.
-
For Luminaria (Grade 2 – Grade 4) there is no required audition! You can register your child for choir here.
-
For insurance purposes, we require all prospective singers to complete the registration form and deposit prior to attending rehearsals. If after trying a few rehearsals it’s not a good fit and you need to withdraw your child from Luminaria, we will provide a prorated refund for tuition fees.
-
Nope. Luminaria singers are not required to have any prior experience singing in a choir.
-
In Luminaria, we require singers to attend all regular Tuesday rehearsals and 3 – 5 concerts per year. The choir is a team and while it may seem like missing one voice is no big deal, it has a significant negative impact on the ensemble. We track attendance and rarely have issues because rehearsals are so much fun.
-
EYCC has a long history of dedicated, positive, and spirited volunteering! Because we are a non-profit organization, we rely on parent volunteers to help keep our programs running smoothly.
We collect a $100 volunteer deposit and each choir family is required to volunteer a few times throughout the year to get the deposit back. You can find all the details about our volunteer policy here.
-
At the time of registration, we collect a $50 deposit to hold your child’s spot. This deposit is applied toward your annual tuition fees.
Tuition fees can be paid in full before the first rehearsal in September or in two installments due in September and December.
-
Yes, we have a bursary program for families who qualify for financial assistance. Please email us for a bursary application form.
-
We do. Families with multiple children, teens, or adults in EYCC ensembles receive a 10% discount on annual tuition fees.
-
In addition to annual tuition, we collect a $50 fundraising deposit per singer and a $100 volunteer deposit per family. Both of these fees are refundable if the required fundraising and volunteer hours are completed by the end of the season.
We also collect a $15 uniform fee for the choir t-shirt worn for performances.
-
For concerts, Luminaria singers wear a choir t-shirt, black pants or black leggings, black socks, and black dress shoes or ballet flats (no runners or boots).
