EYCC’s Policies for families

Volunteer Policy

Our choirs continue to grow and thrive, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our parent and singer volunteers. We greatly appreciate your commitment to supporting our programs!

The purpose of the volunteer policy is to promote equity in participation and clear expectations for how volunteering works.

How the volunteer policy works:

At the start of the choir season in September, each EYCC family submits a $100 deposit. This deposit is fully refunded at the end of the season if your family completes the required 5 volunteer credits. If the family is unable to complete the required 5 volunteer credits, the deposit will be forfeited.

Volunteer positions can be signed up for via our online Registration Portal (coming soon).

Volunteer opportunities may include but are not limited to: chaperoning choir trips and performances, assisting with fundraising events, helping with uniforms, and assisting with administrative tasks. A full list of the volunteer positions, what each role requires, and their respective credit will be available inside the Registration Portal.

Fundraising Committment

Fundraising is important to our organization because it allows families the opportunity to subsidize tuition fees and tours. In addition, fundraising helps our organization to be eligible for larger grants, and therefore provide better programming to our singers.

How The Fundraising Policy Works

At registration, each family with a singer(s) in Luminaria, Spiritus, Harmonia, EYC, Resound, or Heartsong is required to submit a fundraising deposit. This deposit can be by e-transfer, cash, or cheque (post-dated to April 15, 2024). The fundraising deposit will be returned (or the cheque destroyed) at the end of the season, provided that the family has raised the required funds through choir fundraising activities.

Fundraising opportunities include selling grocery gift cards as well as Purdys Chocolates, Epicure, Salisbury, FundScrip, and other opportunities.

Funds raised in excess of the fundraising requirement may go towards reducing that chorister’s tour and travel fees or choir fees for the following year.

Choristers and families are welcome to organize events that allow for individual fund-raising opportunities. These events must be approved by the Parent Executive of the Choir in which your chorister participates.

Casino Policy

To enable our choristers to receive the quality vocal training and music experience that is the hallmark of these choirs, a primary fundraising vehicle for both the Edmonton Youth Choir Association and the Edmonton Children’s Choir Association is a casino which occurs once every two years for both associations.

The revenue from casinos provides the choirs with a significant amount of the required funds for operations. The funds are used for uniforms, music, festival registration costs, and tour costs, as well as to keep the tuition fees for choristers at a reasonable level. All families of choristers are expected to provide a worker for the Casino. Angeli families are not required to volunteer at the casino events but are welcome to participate.

If your family is unable or unwilling to participate in the casinos, you may choose to pay extra tuition fees instead. Please contact our Choir Manager for more information on the additional fees.
